TAMIYA Mitsubishi Pajero Metaltop Wide
May 17th
It only dawned on me recently that, while I’ve been posting stories about my remote control helicopters, I already had a remote control vehicle which I’d owned for years and not mentioned at all.
The vehicle in question is the TAMIYA Mitsubishi Pajero Metaltop Wide – a radio controlled car I bought many years ago. In fact, I still have the box it came in, and everything else I bought at the time – plus the receipt! It cost £159.99 and I bought it on 6th March 1995.
Lucky Boy 9961 R/C helicopter

Yes, it’s yet another helicopter post! This time, the Lucky Boy 9961. It’s a strange brand name… but it’s an awesome heli! Not only does it look nice, it also carries a camera capable of capturing photos and video with audio.
I had originally purchased a smaller, infra-red model, which looked equally good. However, I could not get it properly trimmed; it kept rotating clockwise, no matter how much I turned the trim control to try and correct it. You could keep it steady by holding the stick left, but then you couldn’t actually turn left at any decent rate. So, that had to go back for a refund.
Watch out for those crosswinds!

Having endured the hell that is the first lawn cutting of the year, and with no sign of the rain which the MET office had promised us for the weekend, I decided yesterday that it was the perfect opportunity to get the batteries charged up and take my helicopters out into the garden for the first time.
E-flite Blade CX3 MD 520N – Part 1

Okay, let’s rewind a little. It’s Christmas day, and I finally get my hands on the gift from my parents – the Blade CX3 radio controlled helicopter! Just looking at the controller, it’s clear straight away that this is a much more complex model than the Apache or the Chinook. This is a proper, digital 2.4GHz five-channel system, and the throttle lever isn’t spring-loaded – meaning you can set a throttle level and release the lever without the aircraft falling out of the sky.

A quick catch-up, in case you haven’t read my previous posts on the subject: I bought a small remote controlled Apache Gunship a few weeks back, and found it to be fairly addictive. So much so that I’ve been looking for other models, and it’s fast becoming a new hobby, rather than a quick bit of fun.
